Need help with editing?

There are several editing programs floating around out there now, so I wanted to share a few I’ve used myself and found to be somewhat valuable.

But, a word of caution here: Editing programs are not infallible, which is also true for human editing. Always ensure whatever is being changed actually improves the story’s clarity or readability or, in some other way, enhances your writing. You never have to agree to the changes suggested! It’s your story. Make sure any edits performed truly benefit your work.

With that being said, the following programs can speed up a basic edit and allow your human editor to focus on elements that a program simply can’t address (e.g., consistency, characterizations, story flow, clunky sentences, and info dumps.)

I have worked with Angela Crowder for the past three years and have benefited immensely from her expertise. She has weighed in on every one of my short stories and three of my novels. She is insightful, honest, and knowledgeable of my genre—I write amateur sleuth mysteries. Without hesitation, I would recommend her as an editor.
