Line Editing

Once your story is ready, a Line Edit is performed to fine-tune the language used in your horror, mystery, or thriller tale. This is your stylistic edit, where your project is combed through line-by-line to ensure you’ve selected just the right words to immerse your reader and still maintain your unique voice and style. It allows you to develop a deeper and more captivating story that will entrance your reader all the way to the twisty end.

During this edit, I’ll use the Track Changes feature in Word to monitor all revisions made to your document. Once complete, you’ll receive three documents total; a Style Sheet that tracks all editorial decisions, a Word document with edits visible for your review, and a second Word document with in-line edits accepted so you can compare it to the original.

I recommend a Story Consultation before proceeding with this service to confirm it’s the right editing step for your manuscript and to provide you with the tailored and effective editing feedback necessary to meet your specific needs.

Your manuscript deserves the best, and a Story Consultation allows me to understand the best way to support your vision.

When your story is ready, the Line Editing service comes with two rounds of revision. After the first round of edits, you’ll have a chance to review everything and make changes before we move on to the final stage, where I’ll happily review your corrections and ensure everything remains consistent throughout your project.

Copyediting

Now that you’ve made it through a Line Edit, Copyediting will be next on the list. This polishing and refining step is considered your mechanical edit and focuses on a story’s grammatical details. It’s performed before formatting and proofreading and is your final opportunity to make significant changes.

Copyediting creates the error-free experience your readers crave and prevents them from stumbling over missing punctuation or clunky sentences. It ensures your story remains true to the accepted style guides, rules, and conventions that are currently expected in quality commercial fiction and by readers.

During this edit, I’ll also use Track Changes in Word to monitor all revisions made to your document. Once complete, you’ll receive three documents total; a Style Sheet that tracks all editorial decisions, a Word document with edits visible for your review, and a second Word document with in-line edits accepted so you can compare it to the original.

This edit includes revisions for the following:

  • Grammar
  • Spelling
  • Punctuation
  • Style
  • Clarity
  • Voice
  • Syntax
  • Redundancy
  • Consistency
  • Readability
